"Textiles are our second skin - sitting closest to our largest organ, a beautiful opportunity for absorbing the energies of restorative plants. There is evidence that many natural dyes were discovered through their use in medicinal applications.

In this workshop, we will work with the medicinal and magical properties of a variety of plants. You will learn the processes and preparations for different natural dyes, gaining insights into how to create long lasting, vibrant colors without the use of toxic chemicals, and explore natural dyes that are known not just for color, but for their physical and energetic healing qualities as well.

You will play with these techniques and a spectrum of botanical colorants on silk scarf provided, and suggestions for infusing these fabrics with your intentions will be shared. We will cover choosing the ideal fabrics and plants to work with, mordanting the fabric to prepare for dye, safety, modifying colors to achieve brighter or darker shades, tying and shibori methods for creating patterns on fabric, where to get dyes - from foraging in the woods to the supermarket, and tips for caring for your naturally dyed goods.

You will go home with silk samples, your medicinally dyed scarf, and your own copy of my zine on medicinal dyes" - Christi Johnson
